Russian rockets destroyed residential buildings

Chernihiv

Fighting for the city of Chernihiv lasted one month and eight days. The Russian army first tried to enter Chernihiv on 26 February 2022, but the Ukrainian troops stopped them on the outskirts of the city.

The Russians made several attempts to enter the city, but none succeeded. Although Chernihiv was not occupied, the city became one of the most destroyed as a result of the full-scale Russian invasion. Russian troops shot and bombarded residential buildings, kindergartens, schools, and hospitals from ‘Grads’ and during the air raids.

Workers of the factory ‘Siverianka’ found a hiding place in the company’s bomb shelter.

From the first days of the full-scale invasion, 130 people lived in basements, furnished their sleeping places and ate there.

But people remained in the bomb shelter even after the invaders had withdrawn from Chernihiv oblast, because the dormitories where they lived were destroyed by Russian missiles and they had no place to return to.

By the end of July 2022, deputies of the Chernihiv City Council approved the decision to transfer the dormitory, which previously belonged to the company “Siverianka”, to the city’s balance. This will help residents to carry out capital repairs in the building and return home.
