The village of Yahidne is located right next to Chernihiv. The Russians occupied it on the second day of a full-scale invasion, specifically to blockade and eventually seize the regional capital.
In Yahidne, they began to equip dugouts, mine the territory – in particular, the gardens of local residents. The Russian occupiers forced more than 300 people into the cramped basement of a local school, where they kept the villagers for almost a month.
But besides that, they killed men, in particular the sons of Mykhailo Shevchenko. According to the father, one was killed in his own yard. The younger one was kidnapped. The family still cannot find him.
